Guest lecturer Lynn Pasquerella, Mount Holyoke College president and professor of philosophy, will present Aesthetic Disruption and Ontological Doubt in Kara Walker’s "Harper’s Pictorial History of the Civil War (Annotated)".
Pasquerella's lecture addresses an exhibition hosted by the Art Museum last year. In Harper’s Pictorial History of the Civil War (Annotated), Kara Walker juxtaposed Harper’s version of the Civil War with images of her own that questioned the notion that slavery ended with the war.
A reception will follow.
